The Food Babe Way – The way to eat

After an intense and sweaty yoga class I walked to what used to be “Healthy Pleasures” on Grand and Mercer for a juice and breakfast. Mornings were mostly the same from day to day. I would walk to the carob-smelling shop, order my juice, explore the short aisles of colorful hippy products and begin my self-soothing ritual of label reading.


Mind you this was 2003 and label reading was not “en vogue, au courant.” Suddenly I felt a strong, piercing presence on my back, as if someone was watching me. Granted this was Manhattan but it seemed early for stalkers. I whipped my head around, tightly gripping the two wrapped rice flour muffins in my hands and it was none other than Willem Dafoe, a fellow Ashtangie, and his yoga companion. They were gawking at me like I was painted green or had three heads. Perhaps I WAS spending a bit too much time on the labels but the reality is, we need to know what is in our food and how to decode those mysterious lists on the backs of packages. Right?

My dear friend Vani Hari, aka The Food Babe is all about teaching just that.
